The Qur'an That I know is an award winning speech by Sufyan Vaid, then 7 years old at MES school, Doha. Organized by UNITY QATAR

﷽‎

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

The Qur’an That I know,
is a companion we must follow.

A friend in times of need,
Whose advice we should heed.

Takes the people from darkness to light,
Injustice is what it came to fight.

Terrorism it does not teach,
Love is what it came to preach.

It will break the shackles of inequality,
And lead the World to prosperity.

The Qur’an That I know, is the Living Miracle. It is the Ahsanul-Bayan, the most eloquent of speech which is revered by billions of people, admired by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. It has stood the test of time and its message is as relevant today as it was 1400 years ago.

The Qur’an That I know is for people of all ages. When a child reads it, he or she is mesmerized by the fascinating stories of the Prophets and learns valuable lessons from it.

On the other hand a scientist may be astonished to discover facts on astronomy and embryology. It makes us proclaim, that this book is indeed from God Almighty himself.

The Qur’an That I know, describes itself saying:

هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنْ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ

A guidance to humankind and clear proofs and the criterion.

Yes, the criterion to differentiate the right from wrong. The good from the evil- a guide to help us lead better lives.

The Qur’an That I know, made all human beings equal before God. It abolished racism and inequality. White is not superior to the black, neither a rich to the poor. Superiority is only on the basis of good deeds.

The Qur’an That I know, has always championed the cause of human rights. It made sweeping reforms to the society and elevated women to a high rank.

The Qur’an That I know, was sent to unite the people of the world and NOT to divide.

وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلاَ تَفَرَّقُوا

Hold fast to the rope of Allah, and be not divided.

The Qur’an That I know, was sent to spread Peace and NOT terrorism. It states, whosoever killed an innocent

فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا

It is as if, he has killed the whole of humanity.

It condemns the killing of innocent people be it in New York or Baghdad. London or Damascus.

The Qur’an That I know, was sent as a healing:

وَشِفَاء لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ

It came to cure our hearts from jealousy and arrogance.  Surely, this book was not sent to decorate the walls but rather to beautify the hearts with kindness and gratitude, with compassion and mercy.

The Qur’an That I know, is not an ordinary book to be kept on the shelf but rather to be taken as a trusted friend.

Last but not the least, The Qur’an That I know, is a means by which we can connect with our Creator and Sustainer, the only channel which gives essence to our life and meaning to our existence.

Let me end my talk with the golden words of Rabee’ Ibn Aamir, famous companion of Prophet Muhammad, May God’s peace be upon him. He summarized the message of Qur’an to Rustum, The Emperor of Persia.

He stood before the Emperor with his head high and said:

We have come to free you from the worship of the Creation, to the worship of the Creator.

To deliver you from the oppression of the religions to the justice of Islam.

To liberate you from the narrowness of this world to the vastness of the hereafter.

This is The Qur’an That I know.
